ILIGAN CITY, Philippines – A former barangay councilor in Kapatagan town in Lanao del Norte was shot dead by a lone gunman Friday night, November 3.
Police Chief Inspector Malvin Loquente, chief of Kapatagan Municipal Police Station, identified the victim as Joven Alsonado, 35, a job order worker of the municipal government unit.
Loquente said Alsonado was driving his motorcycle together with his wife around 6pm when they stopped to check on the vehicle in Barangay Poblacion.
“Murag nagka-problema iyang motor, mihunong para i-check (I think they were having problem with the motorcycle),” Loquente said.
He said the suspect, who was also riding a motorcycle arrived and immediately shot the victim.
Investigators recovered three empty shells at the crime scene.
Based on the initial findings, Loquente said the victim sustained a gunshot wound under his armpit.
Loquente said Alsonado was active in the campaign against illegal drugs.
