KMP to COMELEC: Investigate AFP for campaigning for Palparan!

Apr. 30, 2007

MANILA — The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the ANAKPAWIS party list group called on the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and election watch dogs like Kontra-Daya and Bantay Pondo at Boto ng Bayan to investigate the campaigning of top Armed Forces o the Philippines (AFP) officials for the election of the Butcher retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan.

According to Ka Willy Marbella, internal deputy secretary general of KMP and ANAKPAWIS party list nominee, aside from the fact that high ranking AFP officials are sending text messages saying in Filipino: Fight the communists in Congress! Vote for the party-list that sides with soldiers. Vote for Bantay party list of Gen. Palparan, AFP Chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon has openly said that he would support the campaign of the Butcher when he runs for Congress,

Now it seems that that support is materializing and once again the military is engaged in partisan politics. This is clear electioneering, like what they are doing with their urban deployment. With the militarys wide deployment they may be again terrorizing the people not just to vote for our party list groups but vote Palparans group instead, said Marbella.

We are now asking the COMELEC to immediately launch a full blown investigation into this case because it is obvious that the military is using its machinery and clout to get their primary fascist representative in Congress. It is good to note that the reason why Palparan ran under the True Marcos Loyalists is that Marcos was a proven human rights violator and birds of the same feather flock together. They are not even a marginalized sector and is just being used by Gloria to have more allies in Congress, added the peasant.

It is obvious that the AFP is violating its memorandum with the COMELEC and its oath to be apolitical. It cannot do this alone and Malacanang may have a bigger role in this. If the COMELEC would not touch the case then we will again present this to the international community, ended Marbella. # # #
