Davao City—The 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) will officially start on May 17 and end on June 14 this year, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).
Pursuant to Batas Pambansa (National Law) 72, which provides the NSO the authority to undertake an integrated census every 10 years, the 2010 CPH aims to count the number of residents of the country and their available housing units.
Census data are used as bases in the formulation of economic development plans and programs. The last census in 2007 tallied the country’s population at 88,566,732 and registered a growth rate of 2.04% from 2000.
A launching forum of the 2010 CPH will be held on May 17, 2010 at the Sulo Hotel in Quezon City. Among the forum’s resource persons are NSO administrator Carmelita N. Ericta and deputy administrator Paula Monina G. Gollado.
Last year, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) issued Resolution No. 16 on the creation of Census Coordination Boards at the regional, provincial, city and municipal levels. The boards will facilitate the 2010 CPH at the local levels.
A meeting with the members of National Capital Region (NCR)-regional Census Coordination Board will coincide with the 2010 CPH Launching Forum on May 17, 2010. The NCR-RCCB is chaired by the Metro Manila Development Authority, with the Department of Interior and Local Government as vice-chair.
In compliance to NSCB Resolution No. 14 issued last year, the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) committed to provide facilities for the training of census personnel, transportation, and publicity and information drive. The NSO and NSCB are attached agencies of NEDA. (PIA)
