DAVAO CITY – Eighty one barangays in Davao City were declared under the state of calamity due to the long drought or the El Niño phenomenon that struck their areas and destroyed their crops.

Along with the declaration, the City Council also approved the P3.9 million calamity fund budget for the purchase of food stuff and rice to aid the barangays.

The Davao City Council declared the state of calamity during its regular session on Tuesday, with Councilor Danny Dayanghirang as the proponent of the resolution.

Dayanghirang said that from the allotted calamity budget, P2 million will be for the transportation and transfer of the food items and rice.
