DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Concrete measure to ease the growing traffic woes in Davao City must be the priority of the 19th City Council set to assume post on June 30.
Reelected City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, during the regular “Kapehan sa Dabaw” press conference at SM City on Monday said the City Council must find solutions to the traffic problems that affect all sectors in the city.
“I think we have to push now the new traffic ordinance for the rerouting. If you notice, we have a lot of new bypass roads opened by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). I think it is high time now to look at the rerouting (of the traffic) in the city,” Dayanghirang said.
According to him, another measure is to seek the help of established subdivisions to utilize their access roads.
“We need to open private subdivisions. I hope they will help us,” Dayanghirang said, adding that the growing traffic problem in the city is also a social concern of private subdivisions.
“I ask them to help us to open the gates so that it can be used as another bypass by vehicles. This way, we can alleviate the problem of traffic and decongest it,” he emphasized.
Dayanghirang also urged the incoming council to pass the pending ordinance on decongesting the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT).
“With close coordination with the executive department, (there is a need to decongest) the terminals of the North and South,” he said, pointing out that the present terminal is no longer suitable.
“With a rapid increase in developments in the city, there is also an increase in (the number of) passengers. We need to split it up as not to congest the development in one area. We also need to develop the outskirts,” Dayanghirang said. (davaotoday.com)
