DAVAO CITY – Incoming president Rodrigo Duterte said he will not be attending the proclamation of the winners of the presidential elections on Monday afternoon, May 30.

“I am not attending any proclamation. I have never attended any proclamation in my life in all of my political aspirations,” Duterte told the media in a press conference here late night Saturday, May 28.

“Nanalo na man ako, sabi ko nga baka God wants me to face defeat, but it never happened ( already won, but like I said, God wants me to face defeat, but it never happened),” he said.

The proclamation for the President-elect and Vice President-elect will be held by the Joint Canvass Committee sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).

Duterte instead, said his lawyers will represent him during the proclamation. On May 27, Duterte officially won the May 9 presidential poll. He garnered a total of 16,601,997 votes based on the final tally of votes by the NBOC.

Meanwhile, Liberal Party’s Vice-Presidential candidate, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo won with 14,418,817 votes. Her closest rival, Sen.  Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., got 14,155,344 votes, respectively.  (davaotoday.com)
