DAVAO CITY – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s children Sara Duterte-Carpio and Paolo Duterte were proclaimed as the incoming mayor and re-elected vice-mayor, respectively, at around 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11.
Duterte-Carpio’s husband, Atty. Manases Carpio received the certificate of the canvass of votes which indicated her 576,677 votes, beating two other candidates.
Atty. Sweetheart De Vera attended the proclamation on behalf of Vice Mayor-elect Paolo Duterte who garnered 522,519 votes as an unopposed Vice Mayorable in Monday’s elections.
Sara Duterte replaced her father after he withdrew his certificate of candidacy for mayor last November 27 last year. In 2009, then vice mayor Sara Duterte ran for mayor with her father as vice mayor. She became the city’s first woman mayor.
Meanwhile, incumbent and newly proclaimed city councilors congratulated Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s victory on presidential race.
First district councilor-elect Mabel Acosta described duterte as “bugoy na Mayor” and lauded Duterte for his landslide victory.
Acosta topped the councilor race with 154,333 votes as of 5:50 pm today.
For her part, second district returning councilor April Dayap said “(T)he country will surely experience what Davao city experienced,” with Duterte as president.
“We knew him as compassionate leader. I am really excited for our country will now be under his leadership,” she said.
Dayap remarked that even though Duterte will now be focusing his attention at the national level, “we can still feel his presence and guidance because I am sure he will not abandon the city.”
“His wisdom on his efforts here in the city will be missed,” she said.
Cocoy Zozobrado, first time councilor-elect in the 3rd district, said that now is the time to move on to forward what benefits the country.
Zozobrado, who never worked with Duterte, admitted, “everybody looked forward for the opportunity to be working for the highly accomplished mayor.”
Four of the 24 councilors elected for the upcoming city council are from the Hugpong Sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political party formed by Duterte in 2001 who was running for Mayor after serving one term as 1st district representative.
Sixteen councilors are returning for the 18th Sangguniang Panglungsod (2016-2019).
Here are the list of winning councilors in District 1: Mabel Acosta who got 154,333 votes, Melchor Quitain Jr with 146,501 votes, Edgar Ibuyan, Jr with 143,592 votes, Leah Librado with 138,813 votes, Bonifacio Militar with 127,101 votes, Nilo Abellera Jr. with 126,647,
Joanne Bonguyan with 117,508 votes, and Pilar Braga with 106,889 votes.
In the second district Maris Salvador-Abella topped councilor race who got 123,039 votes, Cherry Bonguyan with 118,788 votes, Al Ryan Alejandre who got 117,406 votes, Danny Dayanghirang with 115,397, Dante Apostol with 112,856, April Dayap with 109,023, Jimmy Dureza with 106,066 and Diosdado Mahipus with 104,592.
Al-ag topped the third district councilors race garnering 117,417 votes followed by Didoy Dalodo Ortiz with 103,706 votes, Bong Advincula with 99,763 votes, Cocoy Zozobrado with 99,143, Petite Principe with 97, 712 votes, Joselle Villafuerte with 95,814, Conde Baluran with 89,313 votes, and Rene Elias Lopez with 88, 584 votes.
First district representative Karlo Nograles, who is unnopposed, is back to his office with 197,904 votes. On the 2nd district, incumbent representative Mylene Garcia beat Christopher Abierra with 148,086 votes and 16,393 for the latter.
Albert Ungab, brother of the incumbent 3rd district representative Isidro Ungab, was elected as the new 3rd district representative with 114,540 votes beating Councilor Karlo Bello who got 53,192 votes. (With a report from Ace R. Morandante/davaotoday.com)
