DAVAO CITY – Political prisoners in Davao Region have also prepared messages for #PopeFrancis.
Emailed by human rights group Karapatan to the media, the messages were written while they were on hunger strike to appeal for their freedom.
“Kami nagpa-abot ug nagahangyo sa imong malumoong kasing-kasing nga mabati nimo among kahimtang sulod sa bilangguan nga mahatagan una og pagtagad ang among tagsa-tagsa ka mga kaso,” (We ask from your merciful heart to be one with us in our struggle for justice),” the letter said.
Upon the Pope’s arrival on Thursday until his departure on the 19th, the detainees would fast together along with other political prisoners in the country.
Karapatan has documented 35 political prisoners from southern Mindanao who were languished in jails due to “fabricated charges”. The group has recorded a total of 491 political detainees in the country.
