The Davao City Police is in double alert Saturday following the bombing of a shopping mall in Cagayan de Oro.
In a text message to Davao Today, outgoing DCPO Chief Ronald dela Rosa said the city is placed in double alert, with checkpoints and security personal around the city on double time for heightened intelligence monitoring.
A bomb ripped the restaurant section of Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro at around 11 pm on Friday night, killing six persons and injuring 28 others.The fatalities were medical representatives and guests from an ongoing convention of the Philippine College of Chest Physicians at the Grand Caprice Restaurant.
Killed were Misamis Oriental provincial board member Roldan Lagbas, 44; convention guest Dr. Erwin Malanay; Emmanuel Falafox, a company district manager from Zamboanga City; Antony Cañete, of Iligan City; Ryan Estose and Antonio Paredes from Cagayan de Oro.
Police are still investigating who or what group was behind the incident.
The type of explosive is still to be determined as investigators from SOCO found shrapnel as far as 50 meters away from the site. (davaotoday.com)
