DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Davao City Government is eyeing the use of Quick Response (QR) Code to improve contact tracing and health-related information in the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking in a program of Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR 87.5FM) on Monday, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said doctors have suggested the use of QR Code as it is effective to trace Covid-19 positive persons and the places they have frequented.
Some local government units in Metro Manila and government agencies have used the QR Code to gather information of patients, and has eliminated or minimized the need for manual logging of persons in every establishment they entered.
By scanning the QR code provided, health professionals and authorities can immediately connect to an online format in seconds to automatically generate a real-time assessment of health and health-related information of the QR code bearer.
Mayor Duterte-Carpio added that they are also discussing the security features of the code to prevent the public from presenting fake information using the code or using other person’s code.
Given the population of Davao City of 1.6 million and many business establishments, the mayor said that there must be a way to easily verify the information easily and effectively while minimizing problems and risks to Covid-19 exposure. (davaotoday.com)
