DAVAO CITY, Philippines—The city government of Tagum has beefed up its security plan by installing more checkpoints on the city’s major entry points as the entire Mindanao is now under Martial Law.
The Tagum City Information Office on Wednesday said that the intensification of local checkpoints is viewed as “pre-emptive measure” ordered Mayor Allan Rellon following the siege at Marawi City.
Rellon also asked for an augmentation of state security and law enforcement forces to secure the city’s entry and exit points. The decision came after the local chief executive convened a meeting earlier today to order local authorities to heighten their pre-emptive measures to prevent a spill of violence in the city.
Last May 24, Rellon convened a special joint meeting of the City Peace and Order Council, City Anti Drug Abuse Council and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council where security mechanisms were discussed to secure the city.
As of posting, the city of Tagum is now on high alert status and its anti-terrorism unit which is the Tagum Task Force is in direct coordination with the Philippine National Police in the monitoring suspicious personalities and actions, among others.
“The peace-loving people of Marawi certainly does not deserve this act of terror. The people of Tagum extends the hand of solidarity to the residents of Marawi who are suffering in terror,” said Rellon in a statement.
He believed that “the national government will be able to solve this conflict in due time, given the extraordinary leadership of President Duterte.” (davaotoday.com)
