CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Albay 2nd District Representative Jose Maria Clemente “Joey” Salceda bets on compassion, credibility and integrity as the trademark of the Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo and Davao city Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio what he believed Mindanao voters would “buy in.”

Salceda said both Robredo and Duterte-Caprio are “women of steel, not men of steal.”

Political leaders supporting the candidacies of Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have showed their support for the two candidates who are running for president and vice president, respectively, during the national launch here on March 21.

These three political figures have declared their support for the “RoSa” movement, in reference to Robredo and Duterte.

They are Salceda, Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Representative and Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, and Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.

Salceda has been known as an ally of Duterte-Carpio’s father, President Rodrigo Duterte, whose term ends on June 30, 2022.

Salceda is the first political leader to declare support for the tandem of Robredo and Duterte-Carpio.

The three government officials’ preferred candidates come from two opposing camps.

Robredo’s running mate is Senator Francis Pangilinan, while Duterte-Carpio is in tandem with former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who’s gunning for the presidency.

Prior to its official launching here, the ‘Rosa’movement has also kicked off in the cities of Zamboanga, General Santos, Panabo, Butuan and Cotabato.

For Rodriguez, who announced his support for the two female candidates during the recent 10th national convention of the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines (CDP), which he heads, Robredo and Duterte-Carpio are the right persons for the job.

Rodriguez knew Robredo when she was a congresswoman and saw her dedication and commitment to the work at hand.

“She always attends committee hearings when others just send their staff. She has never been involved in any corruption issues and has even received the highest rating from the Commission on Audit for three straight years. VP Leni is competent and highly qualified,” Rodriguez said.

He added that Robredo was the first national figure to mobilize her office for the Covid-19 response.

“In Cagayan de Oro alone, hundreds of trisikad drivers have availed of the anti-Covid vaccine because of Vice Pres. Robredo, and hundreds more have benefited from her poverty alleviation program in Mindanao,” he added.

Climaco-Salazar said that “two women at the helm is a win-win for Mindanao and for the country as a whole.”

She said both Robredo and Duterte-Carpio have proven themselves in doing what is best to the Filipino family.

“Let us give women that opportunity. Now is the right time to choose the right women to lead our country,” the mayor added. (davaotoday.com)
