DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Davao City Police Office apprehended 1,771 violators of the anti-smoking ordinance here in only three months.
From June to August, the highest number of apprehensions was recorded by the San Pedro Police Station with 688, followed by the Mobile Patrol Group with 563, Tugbok Police Station with 141, Buhangin Police Station with 77 and Calinan Police Station with 65. Meanwhile, the Marilog Police Station recorded zero violators for three months.
The three-month period adds up to 7,744.persons who were apprehended in the entire first half of 2017. The police said it recorded 1,423 violators of the City Ordinance 0367-12 or “The New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of Davao City,” from July to December last year.
The Ordinance penalizes violators with P1,000 fine or one month imprisonment or both at the discretion of the court for first offense, P2,500 or two months imprisonment or both at the discretion of the court and P5,000 or four months imprisonment or both at the discretion of the court.
Establishments violating the Ordinance also face cancellation of business permits. (davaotoday.com)
