MARIHATAG, Surigao del Sur – During the Senate inquiry over the Lumad killings here, more families evacuated from their communities out of fear of the paramilitary group responsible for the killings.
The residents came from Barangay Mahaba in sitios Luknodon, Palunpon and San Roque. One of the evacuees, who requested anonimity, told Davao Today that one Bobby Tejero approached them and listed their names.
Tejero is a known member of the paramilitary group, Magahat Bagani Force, a group that is accused of killing three civilians, including a school director and community leaders in Barangay Diatagon on September 1.
TAKE A NAP. This girl, who is trying to catch a nap, is among the evacuees in Marihatag Gym in Surigao del Sur who left their community on October 1.
GOOD HEART. A volunteer church worker prepares porridge for the children of Marihatag, Surigao del Sur who evacuated to the town’s gym because they fear the members of the Magahat Bagani Force.
MORE EVACUEES. More or less 1,000 people occupy the Marihatag gym due to the threats they receive from members of the Magahat Bagani Force.
CLOTHES LINE. A family from Marihatag made a clothes line. According to the evacuees, they left their homes and took with them their newly washed clothes to flee from the Magahat Bagani Force. The evacuees are now in the Marihatag gym.
