Duterte, TU Dangle Fallen Bridge to Davao Voters

DAVAO CITY — Mayor Rodrigo Duterte tried to hard-sell the Team Unity ticket by dangling the fallen bridge in Bankerohan to win votes for the administration bets.

“You’ve failed me in the last election. I hope now, you’re not going to fail me,” Duterte told the crowd gathered under the flyover of Agdao on Tuesday night. Opposition bets won overwhelmingly in this part of the city in the 2004 elections.

“If you vote for the Team Unity, we can have that bridge repaired,” he said, referring to the Generoso Bridge I near the Bankerohan Market. The bridge was recently damaged and Duterte promised to fasttrack its repair in time for Christmas. The damage rendered the bridge impassable to motorists; the repair also displaced 500 families who have been living under it for years.

General Denies Soldiers Ordered to Vote for TU

TAGUM CITY —- It is wise to listen only to credible critics, Brigadier General Carlos Holganza, commanding general of the 1001st Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, said today.

Holganza suggested a scrutiny of the background of the people behind Bantay Boto which alleged that Armed Forces Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon Jr. ordered the chain of command to ensure a straight vote for Team Unity of the administration.

AFP will do beste to help ensure peaceful elections

davao city– 1001st Brigade Commanding General Carlos Holganza vowed to work their best to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.

But Holganza in an interview last Wednesday however said they had monitored election related violent incidents in his area of responsibility particularly in Compostela Valley Province.

Philippines won’t declare ceasefire with dissident groups during May 14 polls

MANILA — The Department of National Defense (DND) will not recommend to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo the declaration of a ceasefire with the dissident groups during the May 14 midterm elections in order to avoid unauthorized and unnecessary movements of possible troublesome groups.
