US immigration bill’s failure sidelines ‘Family Reunification Act’

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Today, the U.S. Senate could not muster the 60 votes needed to limit debate and move towards a final up-or-down vote on S. 1639, the Comprehensive Immigration Bill. Today?s vote effectively kills the legislation for the time being. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI) voted yes, to limit debate and advance the bill.

Philippines, Qatar coordinate in probe of OFW’s death

MANILA — Charg? d’Affaires, a.i. (CDA) Rosario P. Lemque of the Philippine Embassy in Doha, Qatar reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the embassy is coordinating with Qatari authorities on the investigation of the death of OFW Melissa Leseniana, who died on the morning of 22 June 2007.
