The NDF said the arrest of Pansoy “reflected the NPA's consistent compliance to the people's defense guidelines banning armed politicians and campaigners in revolutionary territories,” while the arrest of Tomas “demonstrated the NPA's commitment in exacting revolutionary justice against a fascist AFP unit responsible for killing and wounding of children under the pretext of "legitimate encounter" with the NPA.”

NDF orders the release of military, police captives

Somo and Sopo, according to Del Mundo, “are requisites to ensure the safe and orderly process of the release of the POWs to the International Committee of the Red Cross, concerned provincial officials of the Aquino government and church leaders, who shall then turn over the POWs to their respective families.”

“We should work for ‘more talk towards more peace,’” Bishop Calang urged, adding that amid the ongoing civil war, the more important thing to do is to “not lose hope, especially from the part of the government.”
