DAVAO CITY, Philippines—The Department of Science and Technology here announced Friday that the revival of the Mindanao Science and Technology Centrum is being worked out after a Memorandum of Agreement signed between the agency and the Learning by Doing Technologies Training Resource Center, Inc. Engr. Reyman Zamora of LEADTECH, said the centrum is presently being repaired and renovated as one of the terms of the agreement signed on March 3, this year.
“Currently, there’s a general cleaning, and then we have invested on tools and equipment,” Zamora said.
Zamora also disclosed that four members of the Matigsalog and Ata-Manobo tribes were being trained by LEADTECH to conduct repair and maintenance of equipment in the centrum.
“As of now, the priority is to enhance the marginalized communities through science and technology, empower teachers to create integrated projects, and lastly, to expose students to interactive learning of S&T,” he said.
On the other hand, DOST XI Assistant Regional Director Mirasol G. Domingo said the centrum will have its soft-opening on June or July. Only indoor exhibits will be open to the public.
Domingo added that “the whole centrum will soon have its make over and additional facilities and exhibits will be added.” The project is expected to be completed in five years, he said.
“Hopefully, we will gain the support of the community para mag materialize na gyud ni,” Domingo said.
The revival of the Mindanao Science and Technology Centrum through the integration of Science and Technology and Culture and the Arts aims to be a center to showcase the culture and the arts of Mindanao.(davaotoday.com)
