Comelec Davao bares official number of candidates in local polls

DAVAO CITY – Davao City has a total of 43 candidates running for seats at the City Council in the local polls this year.

In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, Atty. Danilo Cullo, city election officer said 16 candidates will be running in the first district, 13 in the second district and 14 in the third district.

Cullo said there are three candidates running for mayor including former-mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio who substituted her father Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. The older Duterte is running for president in the coming elections.

Davao City has a total of 873,670  registered voters who will be allowed to vote after they are through with the biometric registration while a total of 97,000 voters can no longer vote after they failed to comply with the biometric registration.

The election period formally starts on January 10 when the Commission on Elections gun ban implementation will be strictly imposed on police checkpoints up to June 8.

The campaign period will start on February 9 for those running for the national elections and on March 25 for those running for local positions. The elections will be on May 9, 2016. (davaotoday.com)
