DAVAO CITY – Anakpawis party-list today scored the Aquino government for letting the public bear the brunt of the APEC security measures that resulted to major commuters being stuck in traffic gridlock for hours and were forced to walk kilometers long to go to work.

“The traffic schemes prepared by the security forces, MMDA and Palace’s bright minds are basically intended for the comfort of the APEC delegates at the expense of thousands of commuters. What is more insulting is that the Aquino government shell out P10 Billion of tax payers money for this event, ” said Anakpawis party-list Fernando Hicap.

Hicap added the government “is going gaga over the preparation of the APEC, disturbing the daily lives mostly ordinary workers using major road arteries in which the government ordered closed.”

Hicap said “the Aquino government conveniently swept aside the effect of almost a week of heavy traffic in Metro Manila due to the APEC activity.”

“According to National Economic Development Authority, the government is losing P2.4 Billion a day due to worsening traffic.Ironically, those who are being squeezed dry of their hard earned money through high taxes which the Aquino government used to oil its lavish APEC preparation are the ones who suffer,” said Hicap.

Hicap also criticize Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., Director General of the APEC 2015 National Organizing Council asking for understanding for the public for the week-long inconvenience to commuters.

“There is no justification for the traffic mess it created for the commuters to shoulder just to ensure that a few will get a red-carpet treatment. It only goes to show who is Pres. Aquino’s real boss,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
