DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The city council here approved under suspended rules Tuesday another P3 million cash assistance to three more provinces in Luzon that suffered from Typhoon Nina last December 2016.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, chair of the Committee on Finance and Ways and Means, said they earlier received a letter from Mayor Sara Duterte to set aside a portion of the city’s quick response fund as financial aid to the provinces of Marinduque, Quezon, and Batangas.

“We received a letter of urgency from the Mayor’s office for the approval of the additional P3 million financial assistance for the victims of Typhoon Nina. The fund will be coming from the Calamity Fund of the city for this year,” he said.

The municipality of Gasan, Boac, Mogpog and Torrijos in Marinduque will receive P250,000 each, while Quezon and Batangas will each get P1 million. The financial aid will be for the 43,620 families affected by the typhoon in the said areas.

Dayanghirang said that the city can always extend financial assistance to calamity-stricken areas, provided that these areas will be declared under a state of calamity first.

Just like other aid from the city, Dayanghirang said, the Central 911 Chief Emmanuel Jaldon will also deliver the financial assistance to the victims.

“We also authorized Mr. Jaldon to check the condition of the provinces and to monitor that the money will be used for the benefits of the people,” he added.

Last December, Jaldon also distributed the P11 million financial assistance which the city council approved for the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Mindoro, and Catanduanes. Some 20,000 food packs were also sent and distributed to the said provinces before New Year’s Eve. (davaotoday.com)
