DAVAO CITY – The Davao City AIDS Council will hold a parade to commemorate the 27th World AIDS Day on December 1 in a bid to raise awareness among the public about the HIV-AIDS control and prevention and to eliminate discrimination against people living with HIV.
Health Education and Population Officer of City Health Office (CHO), Precy Senoc said in a press conference Thursday that they will launch “Pasiklaban sa Daan” (Red March Parade) to inform the public on how to prevent and control Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). She said the theme for the commemoration is “Getting to Zero”.
“This means zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, zero AIDS-related deaths,” said Senoc.
Senoc said they are targeting 200-300 participants from different agencies including the academe, non-government organizations, and the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender (LGBT) community
“We should all participate and get involve in this endeavor, to popularize the issue and to prevent and control (HIV-AIDS),” she said.
Senoc enlisted the activities for the commemoration which includes a symposium at the media boardroom of Ateneo de Davao University in Roxas Avenue; a voluntary counselling and testing; slogan-making contest; and a dance contest.
The slogans from the contest will be mounted along the streets during the Red March Parade, which will start at 1:00 PM in Freedom Park.
The dance contest dubbed “Pasiklaban ng Gabi” will be held at the Rizal Park at 5:00 PM.(davaotoday.com)
