DAVAO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology Region XI will host the first regional leg of the “Science Nation Tour” which is the national roadshow of the DOST to promote the agency’s programs, projects and services.
Secretary Mario G. Montejo of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will be in Davao City on March 6, for the ”Science Nation Tour “ with the theme “Inspire, Engage and Convert”.
The DOST XI will also hold a free concert at the gymnasium of the University of Southeastern Philippines Obrero campus on the same date. The BOB band, Manila’s hottest new band and DJ Torch, Davao hottest DJ will be featured in the culminating activity of the ”Science Nation Tour .“
Highlights of the event
DOST XI assisstant regional director Mirasol Domingo said that the said event will be a ceremonial turnovering and Memorandum of Agreement signing of the Hydrometeorological Sensors installed in the whole Davao Region.
“As of today, we were able to install 56 meteorological sensors in Davao region,” Domingo told the media on Monday.
The installation of the 56 sensors in the Davao Region started in 2014. The Hydromet project is a component of Project NOAH or Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards which aims to use state-of-the-art weather tracking equipment to provide a better picture of the country’s surface waters.
The project was able to install 9 sensors in Davao City, 19 in Compostela Valley Province, 12 in Davao del Norte, 4 in Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental got 12 sensors.
Domingo said that provinces like Compostela Valley province, Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental received the most number of sensors as they are the most affected by calamities like typhoons.
The DOST is also planning to install different water level sensor with sirens. Domingo said they are still waiting for the approval from PAG-ASA. (davaotoday.com)
