Davao Today photog bags Globe Media Excellence Award

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Former Davao Today photojournalist Ace Morandante won this year’s Globe Media Excellence Awards for Social Media Advocate of the Year.

Morandante’s photo entitled “Moment of Peace” featured a communist rebel and a police escort shaking hands  during the the New People’s Army’s release of its captured soldiers in San Luis, Agusan del Sur this year.

He received his first GMEA Monday at the Marco Polo Hotel.

GMEA, now on its fifth year, continues to recognize excellence in journalism exemplified by members of the print, broadcast, online and social media in the Visayas and Mindanao.

All submitted entries touched on any of the four sustainability focus areas: care for the environment, innate care for our people, positive societal impact and digital nation.

“The critical role of media organizations and online communities in forming and shaping public opinion makes it imperative for technology organizations like Globe to encourage excellence in this field as we all aspire to effect societal change,” Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto said.

Of the 444 entries submitted, 84 were shortlisted, among them was Morandante’s photo and Davao Today correspondent Mart Sambalud’s story “Building a disaster-resilient communities thru Oplan Andam”  which was nominated for the Reporter for Online News Portal category.(davaotoday.com)
