DAVAO CITY – The yearly Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival announced that it is now open to accept film entries that showcase the aspirations of the common Filipino people. Entries are welcome up to July 31.

Now on its eighth year, the film festival seeks films that tackles “people’s aspirations”.

“People’s aspiration is the demand for higher pay and work benefits for every working class, the accessible education for every student and every Lumad, the just distribution of land and genuine agrarian reform for farmers, and the adequate job opportunities to bring back home millions of OFWs to the country,” said Joolia Angelica Demigillo, festival director.

The Pandayang Lino Brocka is an annual exhibition of audio-visual works from independent filmmakers across the country.

The late Lino Brocka was an internationally acclaimed filmmaker who is known for his films that depict the impoverished situation of the Filipino people such as Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang, Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag, Insiang, Bayan Ko, Kapit sa Patalim, Orapronobis, and many others.

The film fest is hosted by Tudla Productions, Inc., an alternative, non-profit group of filmmakers, students and cultural workers, since 2009. The festival will be launched on September 2016 at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

The group said that the festival will also be screened to different university across the country, workplaces, urban poor and peasant communities. (davaotoday.com)
