DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The San Miguel Davao Aguilas FC broke the winning streak of the FC Meralco Manila Sparks after its match ended in a draw of 2-2 on Wednesday, June 21.

The Sparks had a solid five victories so far in the Philippine Football League.

Australian Coach Gary Philips said they take the draw “as a win” following its zero victories so far.

“There’s no question, it’s a massive confidence boost for the team. I think the bigger picture is for us is, we grew as a team, we got back into the game and we showed a lot of spirit,” he said.

Philips said since Day 1 the Aguilas will be competitive. “And that’s what we proved today. It is great to have so many supporters here, it is great to be back home,” he said.

“I’m very proud of the effort, and collectively as a group, we are all very proud and we certainly take it as a win,” Philips added.

For over 90 minutes, the crowd of more than 4,000 gathered at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex to witness the match.

The Aguilas will face the Ilocos United Football Club (IUFC) on June 25, 2017 at 4 pm in Davao del Norte. This will be the second time that the teams will go against each other, with their last match ending in a draw at 1-1 in Vigan, Ilocos Norte.(davaotoday.com)
