DAVAO CITY – Multi-awarded singer Joey Albert will hold a concert for kids with cancer in a hotel here at 8:00 pm on December 4.
The event’s organizer Braganza Events, in cooperation with Waterfront Insular Hotel and Advantage Seal, will hold the concert at Waterfront’s Garden Pavilion.
A cancer survivor herself, Albert intends to share 100 per cent of her “Timeless” concert’s proceeds for the benefit of the Kids of Hope and the Davao Children’s Cancer Fund, Inc. (DCCFI).
Albert, whose signature songs include “Tell Me,” “Iisa Pa Lamang,” “I Remember the Boy” and “Points of View,” will be joined by guest singers former AfterImage band vocalist Wency Cornejo, and The Voice Philippines contenders Jem Cubil and Yaro Carasco.
In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, Annie Javellana of Braganza Events said the concert will be the first comeback of Albert after stricken with the 3rd path of cancer early this year.
The singer survived cervical cancer diagnosed in 1995 and colon cancer diagnosed in 2003. Lately, Albert successfully underwent surgery in March this year after the colon cancer recurred in January this year.
“It’s a celebration of life. Sharing her talent is a way of thanksgiving to be blessed with more life and more years,” Javellana said.
Pediatric oncologist Dr. Mae Concepcion Dolendo, program director of Kids of Hope, said the concert will be a Christmas gift for all children who are undergoing treatment at the Children’s Cancer and Blood Disease Unit and staying at the House of Hope at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
Dolendo said 30-35 patients are admitted every day at CCBDU ward and 30 are housed at the House of Hope, who are beneficiaries of the initiatives of the DCCFI.
She said that the Timeless Concert is also in time for the 8th year celebration of Survivors’ Day for all cancer patients, which is being celebrated every 8th of December.
According to its website, the Kids of Hope is a network of various people coming together from affected families to advocates, communities, government and child cancer networks, aiming to provide the best possible chances of giving holistic, multidisciplinary care for children with cancer particularly from marginalized families.
The Kids of Hope beneficiaries are the children undergoing treatment and care at SPMC’s CCBDU and House of Hope.
