The city's own "Big One" could come in the form of a magnitude 7, intensity 8 earthquake due to its proximity to the Central Davao Fault System, which lies 7.1 km southwest from the center of Davao City, said Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary for Disaster Risk Reduction Renato Solidum, Jr.
The preparedness of several emergency responders were tested during the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held along Bolton Street in Davao City on Thursday.
The nationwide earthquake drill that will take place at 2 PM on Thursday, June 29 will test the readiness of the city government of Davao and its residents if the city is hit by a tremor with a magnitude of 7.1.
Various rescue and response units in the city conducted an earthquake rehearsal drill Saturday, June 24, in preparation for next week's National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2017.
