Guardians of the sea: Panabo launches ‘Sea-Borne Floating Patrol Base’

Jan. 20, 2017

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — In order to strengthen the enforcement of marine environment protection, the city government of Panabo launched a Sea-Borne Floating Patrol Base.

“The floating Patrol Base is an initiative project of the Local Government supported by City Mayor James G. Gamao and private partners that will closely monitor illegal activities in the coastal area in Panabo City such as illegal cutting of mangroves and illegal fishing,” Engr. Felix Sinajon, CENRO department head said in a statement Friday.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office launched the base at Barangay J.P. Laurel last Jan. 13, 2017.

PO3 Glenn Bayugo of the Philippine Coastguard-Panabo Station explained that “the project will be very helpful in their daily operations as it can alert the task force to easily respond in times of emergency situations.”

The patrol base will be anchored within the week at the side of Panabo’s Mangrove Protected Area along the Lasang River. (davaotoday.com)
