TAGUM CITY—Heavy rains brought about by the Low Pressure Area (LPA) formerly Tropical Depression Domeng has flooded residential areas in this city Thursday evening, an official said.
Romulo Tagalo, Executive Director of Davao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) told DavaoToday that Uraya village and St. Therese subdivision were flooded due to heavy torrential rains affecting the whole province.
“Downtown Tagum particularly from Misa to Pilo Elementary and New Public Market were submerged in knee-deep waters based on reconnaissance report from Tagum’s LDRRMO,” Tagalo said.
Other areas were hit also by flooding which were impassable to light vehicles.
Aprilyn Omos Hinay, a resident from Visayan Village, said: “In Mangga, Visayan Village flood is waist-deep.”
While Ernesto Rezane of Purok Calachuchi, Visayan Village reported also that “waist-deep flood is now happening in their residential area.”
As of this posting, no reported casualties but Tagalo said: “(F)amilies affected by the urban flooding were evacuated and sheltered to safer grounds while others stayed in hotels.”
Tagum’s LDRRMO rescue team, he said, is now being augmented by DavNor DRRMO to assist the affected families.
In the rainfall advisory issued by PAG-ASA said that light to moderate to occasionally heavy rains affecting portions of Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Cotabato, AgusandelSur, AgusandelNorte, and nearby areas may persist for 2-3 hours.(Mart D.
