DAVAO CITY — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Davao region will celebrate the 2016 Migrant Workers Day on June 7 to recognize the immense contribution of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) to the national economy of the country.

Eduardo Bellido, Officer in Charge (OIC) of  (OWWA) said that the celebration will be held at the Kadayawan Hall, NCCC mall here with  the theme: “Salamat OFW, Saludo Kami sa Inyo” (Thank you OFW, we salute you).

The program will start at 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

OWWA estimated that 800 to 1,000 OFWs and dependents coming from four provinces of Davao, Davao del Norte, Davao del sur, Davao Oriental will attend the event.

Bellido said that along with the celebration there will also have a regional OFW congress, awarding of Outstanding OFW family circle, Outstanding OWWA scholars, and Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship.

“Regional OFW congress is a multi-sector consultation process designed to draw up regional agenda for OFWs and their families,” he said.

Bellido announced that the congress will be held at the Apo View Hotel still on Tuesday, June 7 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

He said that the outputs of the congress “shall form part of the national agenda which will be presented to the incoming administration for consideration and inclusion in the Presidential Policy and Program Directives for 2016 to 2022.”

The activity will be participated by different representatives from the OFW family circles, academe, church, local government units and non-government organizations.

Free medical check-up, trade fair

During the celebration, OWWA will also hold free medical check-up and will distribute free medicines to the participants.

There will also be raffles for participants, Bellido said.

Aside from the free medical check up, the event will also have a trade fair area where OFW Family circles could display their products.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will also provide tips and ideas in doing business to the OFW’s while the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will showcase its skills training program for the OFWs and their families.(davaotoday.com)
