TEAM Unity has joined the call for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to make public poll returns in Maguindanao province to clear its name over allegations that it was cheating in the area.
TU spokesman Joseph “Ace” Durano said the Comelec should immediately release the election returns (ERs) in the contested areas in the province.
Teachers have claimed that hours before the May 14 election, they were forced to fill in the ballot with names of TU senatorial candidates Luis “Chavit” Singson and Prospero Pichay.
The Comelec has yet to release the ERs for Maguindanao where TU has claimed a 12-0 sweep in the senatorial race.
“It is only by verifying the integrity of election returns can it be cleared of the alleged anomaly,” Durano said.
Durano said the TU’s campaign espoused an election “based on a development agenda and electoral process that is peaceful and honest.”
He said the administration was not involved in any fraud.
“Team Unity supports any and all efforts to defend the integrity of this election,” he added.
Durano acknowledged that the electoral process remained “flawed” and that reforms should be done to improve it.
He added the best thing TEAM Unity could do was to work with the Comelec and the National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) in ensuring that the elections returns were fraud-free.
