DAVAO CITY – Councilor Leah Librado of the first district here expressed her support for the calls for Congress to override President Benigno Aquino III’s veto to pass the law seeking for a P2,000 pension hike for members of the Social Security System.
Librado also expressed dismay over the veto of Pres. Benigno Aquino on the proposed P2,000 across-the-board increase for SSS pensioners.
In a statement, Librado said the pension hike could have gone a long way in helping the senior citizens and their dependents.
Librado also said the president has “little concern” for millions of pensioners, while allowing SSS executives to receive big bonuses.
“This is not the first legislative measure vetoed by the President during his term, but this speaks how little concern he has for the pensioners over the millions of pesos received by SSS executives as bonuses, which he approved. SSS officials were paid in 2014 some P116.8 million in salaries and allowances,” Librado said.
In 2014, the SSS president was paid P6.84 million, while an External Vice President was paid P4.95 million and another EVP P1.6M. Three SVP’s were paid P4.8 to P4.9 million.
“Total investment plus other income generated by SSS in 2014 reached P34.5 billion,” said Librado.
Librado also said she supports the proposals of the bill’s principal author, Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares to institute reforms to strengthen the SSS fund life.
“Whatever mismanagement on the part of SSS should not be blamed and dependent upon the contributions of its members. It is high time that this increase be approved,” Librado said.(davaotoday.com)
