Authorities have “downplayed” the advisory issued by the Australian government warning that Davao is a likely target of terror attacks in the coming days.

“We knew about the threat. It has always been there. Davao is always included as target of the terrorists. That is why we have a Task Force Davao,” Director Catalino Cuy, the Davao City police chief, was quoted as saying in this report.

Apparently, affirming the advisory is Cuy’s way of downplaying it. But his point seems to be that we all should feel safe that there’s Task Force Davao, whose existence, by the way, did not prevent terrorist attacks in the city, contrary to what Cuy might want the public to believe.
