Dutertes, party mates dominate Davao polls

The Comelec said councilors for the second political district will be proclaimed after the replacement of the two compact flash cards from clustered precincts 777 and 753, which have been found defective, shall arrive from their Central Office in Manila.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here proclaimed Wednesday evening the candidates who won the posts for mayor, vice mayor, congressional representatives and councilors of the two political districts.

Vice mayor Rodrigo Duterte and his son, Association of Barangay Captains chair Paolo Duterte, are the mayor-elect and vice mayor-elect respectively with 453,833 votes and 418,608 votes.  Both ran unopposed.  They, however, were a no-show during the proclamation.

The incumbents ruled the three congressional districts.  In the first congressional district, National Unity Party’s (NUP) lawyer Karlos Alexie Nograles (130,874 votes) won against the Dutertes’ bet, Luis Bonguyan (65,324 votes), and independent lawyer Elly Pamatong (1,436 votes).  Liberal Party (LP) and Hugpong’s Mylene Garcia (92,376 votes) won in the second congressional district beating the independents, businesswoman Joji Ilagan-Bian (73,491 votes), Uly Lopez (961 votes) and Jenell Nagayo (253 votes).  LP’s Isidro Ungab (107,985 votes), who ran unopposed, is still the representative for the third congressional district.

Former councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta (140,993 votes) topped the race in the first political district followed by Edgar Ibuyan (123,644 votes), Leo Avila (122,726 votes), Leah Librado-Yap (122,007 votes), Melchor Quitain (113,332 votes), Nilo Abellera Jr. (105,158 votes), Joanne Bonguyan-Quilos (103,757 votes) and Bonifacio Militar (99494 votes).

The first six councilors are under Duterte’s Hugpong party while the last two councilors are under the NUP and LP, respectively.

In the third political district, Kaloy Bello (90,075 votes) lead the race followed by Bernie Al-ag (87,415 votes), Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz (81,184 votes), Rachel Zozobrado (79,959 votes), Joselle Villafuerte (68,403 votes), Antoinette Principe (66,146 votes), Bong Advincula (64,086 votes) and Rene Elias Lopez (56,784 votes).

Six of the winners are under Hugpong while two are under LP and the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

The Comelec said councilors for the second political district will be proclaimed after the replacement of the two compact flash cards from clustered precincts 777 and 753, which have been found defective, shall arrive from their Central Office in Manila.  The number of votes from these precincts could affect the result.

As of Thursday though, LP’s Louie John Bonguyan (100,793 votes) lead the race followed by Al Ryan Alejandre (98,756 votes), Danny Dayanghirang (95,201 votes), April Dayap (91,945 votes), Diosdado Mahipus (87,882 votes), Marissa Salvador-Abella (85,461 votes), Tomasing Monteverde (84,627 votes) and Jimmy Dureza (78,373 votes).  The last seven candidates are under Hugpong.
