DAVAO CITY — The national Highway Patrol Group (HPG) gave police cars and motorcycles to its regional headquarters here, after they have been used during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit last November.
The six police cars and eight motorcycles were intended to augment the HPG capability of its provincial offices.
HPG-XI Director Superintendent Joy Andrade said that the government has procured the vehicles for the purpose of the APEC summit for escorting military personnel, diplomats, and other guests.
“Ginamit po muna namin ito and after the event pinadala na dito sa mga regions (We used these first and after the event they were sent off to the regions),” said Andrade.
He said that the vehicles were to be distributed and turned over to provincial team officer of the HPG in Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental on Wednesday afternoon.
Andrade said that the vehicles are to be used for the upcoming season of Lakbay Alalay where this seeks to provide assistance and safe travel operations for motorists.
“In case, there would be problems, we will assist them along the way,” he said.
He said that the new vehicles will also be dispatched for police operations along the highway along with the old mobiles and three more motorcycles given by the city government.
Andrade said the regional office is recruiting personnel, “we only have 49 warm bodies,” he said.
He added that HPG has been given the responsibility of manning the national highway coining themselves as “guardians of the highway.” (davaotoday.com)
