DAVAO CITY – A 35-year-old man who was believed to have a mental illness killed his mother and grandmother on Monday morning.
Victims, who were identified as the grandmother, Vesitacion Gumban and mother, Lucia Gumban, were found dead around 5:00 am of July 6 at their residence at Purok 5, Barangay Eden, Toril.
A certain Teresa Dalumbar said that the son of Lucia, identified as Randy Gumban, approached her and claimed that his grandmother Vesitacion, is dead.
Dalumbar accompanied Randy to his house and found the two bodies inside.
Initial investigation by the local police said that Randy had disclosed to a barangay official that he and his mother had a fight.
He said in vernacular, ”Away me ni mama. Ako gukod tapos sakyan nako ug gi-tuok (Mama and I had a fight. I chased her and strangled her).”
Examination also revealed that the two victims were strangled to death.
The suspect, who is temporarily in custody of the Toril Police Station, was brought to a mental hospital to undergo check-up as per instruction of the fiscal office. (Diana C. Tomale/davaotoday.com)
