DAVAO CITY – Migrante International has appealed to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to spare the life of the overseas Filipino worker, Mary Jane Veloso who was convicted for drug trafficking and is now awaiting her execution.
In a letter addressed to Widodo, Migrante said they believe Veloso is a victim of a large drug syndicate who takes advantage of Filipino migrant workers.
John Leonard Monterona, regional coordinator of Migrante Middle East said they are also calling on other OFWs to send their letters of appeal to the Indonesian president.
“We are also urging various OFW organizations to arrange a courtesy call to Indonesian ambassador in countries you are now to personally convey our appeal to the Indonesian government to spare our fellow OFW Mary Jane from death by firing squad,” Monterona said.
Monterona said they are also trying to arrange a courtesy call with the Indonesian ambassador to Saudi Arabia to convey their appeal to spare Veloso from execution.
