The convenors of the Peace Council, composed of representatives from various sectors, initiated the study of the Bangsamoro Basic Law aimed at helping the public understand BBL.
The Peace Council held their first meeting on Tuesday. The co-conveners include Archbishop Soc Villegas, Fr. Joel Tabora, Bishop Pablo David, Ms. Amina Rasul, Atty. Christian Monsod, Dean Sedfrey Candelaria, Dean Danilo Concepcion, Prof. Moner Bajunaid, Ms. Pat Sarenas, Atty. Nasser Marohomsalic, Dr. Cielito Habito, Mr. John Perrine, Bishop Efraim Tendero, Atty. Marlon Manuel, former Constitutional Assembly delegate Dr. Wilfrido Villacorta, Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, and Ramon del Rosario.
The Peace Council, in a statement on Friday, said they have agreed to focus on the controversial BBL articles and organize clusters around the following broad topics: 1) constitutionality and forms and powers of government, to be chaired by former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr.; 2) justice, including social justice, and human development, to be co-chaired by Ambassador Howard Dee and Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman; 3) economy and patrimony, to be chaired by Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and 4) human security.
The Cluster Chairs with their expanded membership will hold in-depth sessions. The convenors are expected to conclude by April 18. They will present their output and future activities in a plenary.
On March 27, President BEnigno Aquino III formed the National Peace Summit which aims to discuss issues hindering the peace process in Mindanao.
The original conveners include Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, former Chief Justice Davide, Zobel de Ayala, Dee, and Sumndad-Usman.
