Roxas night market opens for ‘trial stage’

Aug. 14, 2016

DAVAO CITY – Two days before the opening of the Kadayawan Festival, Mayor Sara Duterte allowed the re-opening of the night market along Roxas avenue here on “trial stage” Saturday night, August 13.

“The city government wants to ensure that order is put in place and rules and regulations are followed by the vendors,” Duterte said.

Duterte ordered the closure of night market on August 3 due to various violations committed by some venders.

Identified violations are: sub-leasing of stalls to others venders; refusal to follow the one-family-one-stall rule; and presence of stalls that are run by financiers.

Some vendors also claimed they were able to buy or secure rights or permits over their preferred stalls, while, some insisted on selling in the market even if they are not included in the official list of allowed sellers.

In an emailed dispatch by the City Information Office, CTTMO chief Rhodelio Poliquit confirmed the reopening of the night market.

Agencies such as the City Health Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the Human Resource Management Office will be part of the operations in the night market to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation at the night market, especially in the food section. (davaotoday.com)
