Various student organizations held noise barrage and draped black cloths in their campuses today as sign of protest to call for “justice and accountability” on the Mamasapano incident.
In the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, students, faculty and administrators held a noise barrage protest and announced the UP system’s plans for a walkout next week. UP Manila students draped the Oblation black and held a candle light protest in the afternoon. Students from Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Manila likewise held a noise barrage.
Groups also held a “people’s hearing” in Plaza Miranda and assailed the “Malacanang cover-up” on the Mamasapano encounter.
“We are calling on all students, faculty, administrators to stand up for truth and accountability; to fight for justice and genuine change. It is time we take action. Let us walkout against injustice, impunity and corruption,” said Neil John Macuha, UP student regent.
The protest is in preparation for the nationwide students’ walkout set on February 27.
