Urban poor group expresses dismay over bishop’s ‘pro-Aquino’ stance

Members of Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap expressed dismay over Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle who opposed calls for ouster of President Benigno Aquino III.

In a statement on Wednesday, Carlito Badion, Kadamay national secretary, said they are saddened that Tagle issued the said statement as the country observes 2015 as the “Year of the Poor”.

Earlier last month, Tagle rejected the calls for President Aquino to resign saying the public should rather wait for the next elections.

Kadamay held a protest action through the traditional “pabasa” (Reading of the Passion) in urban poor communities during the Lenten season.

Badion said the public should reflect this Lenten season of the need to call for the President’s resignation as the poor experience poverty everyday.  The group also called for the establishment of a transition council.
