TAGUM CITY – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is pushing for the inclusion of private dwellings in the regular fire safety inspections.
BFP Davao del Norte provincial office information officer Cyrus Medina, in the weekly Kapihan sa Kapitolyo, cited that 42 percent of all fire incidents in the country in 2003 happened in residential areas.
In recommending a more pro-active move to avert fire, Medina called on the public to inspect their own homes and be wary about faulty electrical wirings.
Though Medina could not present the corresponding local data for Davao del Norte, he said the trend appears true in most cases owing to the exclusion of residential areas from fire safety inspection. Only commercial and business establishments are required by law to be inspected as part of the requirements for owners to renew their business permits.
