NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley (10 March) — Helping others is helping ourselves. The saying goes true for Gina Asidoy who owns Asidoy Wooden Craft based in Mawab, Compostela Valley Province.
Barely two years in business of wood carving but she has gone far in selling her products.
Thanks to two young people whom she wanted to help find means of earning a living.
May naila man gud ko duha ka magsoon, among silingan. Nakita nako ang ilang talent sa pagkulit. Gusto nako sila tabangan mao nga ingon ko sa ila, magnegosyo ta. (I happened to know two people in the neighborhood. they were brothers. I had seen their talents in carving. I wanted to help them so I told them, we go business.
Asidoy bared the situation these two young people were in at that time that struck her interest to help them.
Minyo na man gud ni sila, may anak. Para mabuhi ila pamilya, kinahanglan nila makatrabaho. (Theyre married; they already have children. For them to provide for their family, they have to find jobs), she said.
Asidoy has seen the potential of wood carving business especially that logs for such venture is available in the municipality of Mawab.
So she supplied the brothers with wood including the paraphernalia for carving and together, they work on various designs from cooking utensils to home decors.
From P2,500 initial capital, Asidoys wood carving business has grown to more than P100,000.
As her business grows, she is taking in more employees. Shes giving them livelihood while they are helping her meet the volume of demand for her products.
Aside from local markets in Compostela Valley, her products are now sold at NCCC Mall, Gaisano Mall and Central Warehouse in Davao City.
She is also taking advantage of local trade fairs just like what she did during the 9th Anibina Festival during which she was selling wood carvings that told the glory of helping. (PIA XI)
