DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The series of earthquakes that struck Lanao del Sur on Sunday, September 24, is estimated to have caused P10 million worth of damages, the province’s Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office said.
Zia Alonto Adiong, spokesperson of Lanao del Sur’s Provincial Crisis Committee, said almost 26 barangays in Wao were affected by the quake.
In a phone interview, Adiong based these figures from a government situational report that showed at least three school buildings, four mosques, two health centers, two churches, four barangay halls, and 425 houses that were partially damaged. Six houses were totally damaged.
Adiong added that there were five people who sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, he said the 64 patients in Wao District Hospital remained outside the medical facility. The patients staid inside make shift tents at the hospital grounds.
The 5.4-magnitude quake in Wao struck at 4:47 am of September 24. Intensity 6 was felt in Kalilangan in Bukidnon province, intensity 5 in Cagayan de Oro City, intensity 4 in Pangantucan, Kadingilan, Maramag, Damulog, Quezon, and Don Carlos towns, and cities Valencia and Malaybalay in Bukidnon province. Meanwhile, intensity 3 was recorded in Kabacan town in North Cotabato, Talakag in Bukidnon and Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental, while intensity 2 was felt in Kidapawan City.
