DAVAO CITY – The Inter-agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) Region XI has opened its anti-human trafficking advocacy to students from colleges and technical schools through Video Infomercial Competition against human trafficking.
Region XI Deputy Regional Prosecutor Barbara Flores in an interview Friday said the infomercial should be able to show the different kinds of human trafficking and on how to prevent people from becoming victims.
There were seven entries submitted in this year’s competition of which the three finalists were chosen in today’s final judgement. The list of winners were not immediately available.
Winners will receive cash prize and plaque. First prize is P30,000, second is P15,000 and the third will get P10,000, Flores added.
She said that this project “can help educate the public on how to prevent ourselves, relatives, friends, and neighbors from being victims”.
She acknowledged “how powerful media is in reaching wider scope of audiences”.
“On the previous years, we only have tarpaulins and posters, and this limited our audience, whereas in film, of course it is more interesting,” Flores added.
She said that prior to this project they were able to distribute campaign materials like posters and tarpaulins against human trafficking in all barangays in Region XI.
They initially printed 2,500 posters but because of the outpouring support of the other members to this campaign, they increased it to 5,000 posters.
Flores said that campaign “is really powerful that is why they want something that the public can relate to it and be vigilant and aware to the problem that is why they come up with this”.
This started in 2013 when IACAT XI played infomercial videos on taxicabs and operators requested for new materials.
“Unfortunately we don’t have new materials because limited yung materials for anti-human trafficking. So we thought why not come up with this project at the same time, this would also teach the students what is human trafficking and how they can prevent it”, Flores added. (davaotoday.com)
