DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) has admitted the killing of a village police who was also a “civilian agent” of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) 1003rd Division Reconnaissance Company in Purok 4, Carmen village, Baguio District last Saturday.
In a statement, Ka Sandawa, spokesperson of the NPA’s Zenaida Beron Command said a “military tribunal” meted out the standing order against Paulino ‘Jun’ Landim, Jr. last March 2 for his participation as “a military spy.”
Last year on March 29, the NPA’s military tribunal handed its judgment against Landim.
Landim’s espionage, according to the communist spokesman, included the raid and killing of one NPA guerilla Ka Juvy and the wounding of another during the February 25, 2011 raid by the AFP’s 84th Infantry Battalion and the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force.
But, Ltc. Edgar Nigos, commander of the 84th IB, told davaotoday.com in a text that all of the NPAs “declarations were untrue.”
“Their statements were mere coverups to justify their murder of Mr. Landim Jr.,” Nigos said. “Besides, we don’t want to engage in a ‘word war’ with this bunch of criminals,” he added.
Meanwhile, five other “civilian assets” were arrested and detained by the NPA on March 1. They were Cesar E. Aggas, 50; Jomer O. Manando, 24; Alvin L. Aggas, 19; Elmer L. Aggas, 17; and Jerbel L. Aggas, 16.
Ka Sandawa said the five individuals allegedly identified themselves as forest guard volunteers of the Philippine Eagle Conservation Program Foundation (PECPF). But they were released a day after their arrest.
The NPA said they confiscated a Bushnell binocular, Olympus digital camera and Nokia cellphones from the said men, including Landim.
Landim, according to the NPA, was the son of a tribal chieftain linked with Joel Unad “who is notorious for the unabated landgrabbing and other atrocities in his CADT areas in Baguio District.”
With the punishment against Landim, Ka Sandawa warned the 10th ID-AFP for using the PECPF “as front organization for its intelligence operations” as it scored the office of Mayor Sara Duterte for “allowing the use of barangay police for counterrevolutionary operations.”
The NPA also denied the PNP-Baguio’s claims that the NPAs “brutally killed” and “dragged and paraded before the people” the body of Landim.
