STO.TOMAS, Davao del Norte, Philippines — A former village chief took oath as the newly-elected town mayor Friday along with other elected municipal officials at the town gymnasium.
In a ceremony dubbed as “Panunumpa sa Katungkulan,” Mayor-elect Benigno Andamon and Vice Mayor-elect Daniel Batosalem together with eight other elected municipal officials took oath before Davao del Norte Province Governor Rodolfo del Rosario.
The Sangguniang Bayan Members (13th Municipal Council) will be composed of Dario Romano, Mario Batosahbdgefflem, Virgilio Recto, Gabriel Eric Estela, Eduardo Llorente, Cromwell Cocamas, Julie Mantequilla and Ireneo Landasan.
“Karong adlawa, usa ka bag-ong pagtan-aw sa kaugmaon sa lungsod sa Sto. Tomas nga dili lang ang naa sa hayahay nga komunidad ang mahatagan og maayong pang-gobyerno kung dili ingon man usab ang yanong tao sa atong komunidad,” Andamon said during his acceptance speech.
He appealed to his fellow elected officials to set aside political issues and differences for the progress of the municipality and urged members of the Sangguniang Bayan to rally behind with the various programs and services that he will implement for the people of Sto. Tomas.
Meanwhile, Del Rosario asked the support of the people of Sto. Tomas for the new mayor so that the town will develop. He also challenged the elected leaders to “stay loyal, true, committed and dedicated” in their duties and responsibilities.
Del Rosario also gave his assurance that the provincial government “will continue to open its doors for Sto. Tomas and seal a partnership for the implementation of its infrastructure projects.”
The ceremony was also attended by Davao del Norte Vice Governor Victor Suaybaguio and Second District Representative Anton Floirendo Lagdameo and more than 2,500 supporters and guests including the officials’ families and friends, civil society groups, municipal government offices, business sectors, school administrators, and religious sectors, among others.
