DSWD feeding starts in city’s Madrasahs

Mar. 03, 2015

The feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for students enrolled in Madrasah here has now started.

According to DSWD director Priscilla Razon, at least 1,500 children enrolled in the city’s Madrasahs will be the beneficiary of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) for Sajahatra Bangsamoro in the current school year 2014-2015.

The SFP is the daily provision of food in addition to the regular meals, to two to five year-old children in Day Care Centers or to five to 12-year old children enrolled in Madrasah.

Madrasahs are Muslim schools that focus on Islamic Studies and Arabic Literacy.

Razon said they are initially conducting the feeding program to some 550 children aged 5 to 12 years old in 11 Madrasahs.

“We will be covering another 950 schoolchildren as soon as we receive the master list from our program field workers,” Razon said.

The DSWD has allotted Php 910,250.00 for this initial run.
