DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Authorities here reported that there were at least 11 drug-linked personalities killed in police operations since the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign was relaunched in March.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Teresita Gaspan said the number of suspects killed in the Oplan Double Barrel also included are those who died in the operations of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Gaspan noted that the number is lesser compared to those killed in other parts of the country due to the “internalization” of the police officers on the procedures in police operations.

Gaspan clarified that those killed in the operations are suspects who violently resisted the arrests.

The city police also reported more than 400 arrested suspects related to illegal drug trade since March 3 up to present.

Meanwhile, PDEA here reported that 103 barangays in the region are already cleared of drugs.

The total number includes 28 villages in Davao del Norte, 18 in Davao del Sur, 22 in Davao Occidental, 17 in Davao Oriental, and 18 in Compostela Valley Province.

Joel Plaza, deputy regional director of PDEA 11, said there are still 435 barangays in the region that are affected by the drug problem. Region 11 has 1,162 barangays.
